Course Description

Florida now requires those licensed in clinical social work, marriage & family therapy, and mental health counseling to acquire three (3) hours of continuing education specific to the statutes and rules of Florida governing those professions. These hours must be completed by March 31, 2019.

This new program meets the requirement. The current statutes and rules that pertaining to the above professions are presented, including changes to the rules that have occurred in recent years. Chapter 456, F.S., Chapter 491, F.S., and Rule Title 64B4, F.A.C. are included.

Meets the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling's requirement for 3 CE credits/hours in Florida Law and Rules (30 questions).

  • Present current statutes and rules that govern the practice of clinical social work, marriage & family therapy, and mental health counseling in Florida, including any changes to the rules that have occurred in recent years.
  • Explain Chapter 456, F.S. which covers general rules that are applicable to health professions and occupations in Florida.
  • Discuss Chapter 491, F.S. which covers specific rules that govern clinical, counseling, and psychotherapy services in Florida.
  • Describe Rule Title 64B4, F.A.C. which covers specific administrative rules propagated by the Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling with regard to the practice of clinical social work, marriage & family therapy, and mental health counseling in Florida.
  • Apply the above stated statutes and rules (including discussion and case examples) including rules on intent, client records, disposition of records, sexual misconduct, grounds for discipline, licensure noncompliance, evaluation of minors, and supervision.

Charlene Proeger, PhD, LMFT, has been a licensed marriage and family therapist in Florida since 1982. She is currently the owner of a geriatric care management company and provides consultation to families of older or disabled persons.
